The $25 Tip Of The Iceberg
|
Chapter 8 - There is so much irrationality in traditional healthcare, it’s just nuts. If Jerry Seinfeld ever wanted to do another TV series and needed material, he’d not have to look far. There’s enough absurdity in the field of healthcare to finish a million punch lines.
I had a friend tell me a few weeks back, that he took great comfort in knowing that it was never going to cost his wife more than $25 to take the kids to go see the doctor. It gave him huge peace of mind. Removed a big ol’ piece of stress out of the generally unpleasant experience visiting the doc. I forget what he told me his monthly premium was but it was big. And if he is having it payroll deducted, that premium is like the underside of an iceberg.
I’m not faulting him at all. In fact I keep hearing this over and over. Shoot, I was the same way. The point here is that it is that logic has a real hard time in the face of irrational forces.
Logic will prevail in healthcare as it becomes more and more transparent. And HSA’s are helping to drive transparency.
