High Deductible Health Plan - REJECTED!

I received a letter last night from the insurance that had the cooling effect of a walk-in refrigerator.  I got a "Dear John" letter from the company I thought was going to underwrite my new HDHP.

My family with what I thought was not a major exception, is in terrific health.  My wife suffers from migraines which did not disqualify us from being covered last year with our current insurance company.

I know I can re-up with my current company, but I had a few issues with them and wanted to get a little bit more coverage.  But I am kicking myself for not insisting that my agent have the details of my application pre-screened with his contacts at the insurance company.  Ouch, that hurt (I just kicked myself).

The reason I keep kicking myself is that another agent told me once that if one is ever denied insurance coverage, they will have to answer "yes" on every application henceforth and explain their walk of shame.  Now, I haven't discussed this with my new agent yet (but will as soon as we speak), but my perception is that this question is kind of like a prison record and having to answer "yes" on a job application when the question is asked, "have you ever been convicted of a felony."

I'm looking forward to seeing how this plays out.  It will give my agent the opportunity to show his meddle and hopefully we won't have to wear the "Scarlett Letter" for the rest of our natural lives.  It will hopefully make me knowledgeable about this whole space and enable the folks at HSAeducator.com to help visitors make more informed decisions about their health, their wellness, their High Deductible Health Plans, and their Health Savings Accounts (HSAs).  Stay tuned for the next installment of The Gradock Bulletin.
