Let The Sunshine Brighten Your Day
|
I’ve been totally juiced on exercise lately which is a key component of a healthy lifestyle. I have a friend that says from time to time, “It doesn’t matter what lights your fire, just that fact that it is lit.” When it comes to exercise, I think this is especially relevant.
My fire was “lit” after 20 years sitting behind a desk during the day, and laying on the couch at night. Other people these days are being motivated by the fact that they now have HDHPs with HSAs and now are more in tune with the cost of health care and want to keep theirs down, for some it may be a spouse or significant other who has been bitten by the exercise bug, or maybe a pithy blog sparked something.
Starting an exercise program is tough, but staying with it is even tougher. Often times our exercise programs are broken by our own vanity. We look in the mirror and see that muffin top sitting above our hips, or some Aphrodite or Adonis in the gym discourages us, or our exercise clothes make us look larger than life, or our running shoes are ragged, or the banana seat and sissy bar on our 5-speed are not in style. Or heaven forbid…..cankles.
As a self described red-neck cyclist, I can tell you I am a hillbilly on wheels. And at this point in my exercise lifecycle, I’m good with that. If this is an impediment for you, I know you can work through it too.
As a little motivation, I have pulled one of the best (and funniest) movie clips ever to maybe push you to put your fears behind you and step out there.
Sorry about the French, but words are really incidental to the message–the video does not need translation. You don’t have to be the prettiest, most handsome, or most perfect to step out there. You just need a little desire, a little daring, and preferably a dysfunctional cheering section behind you to go out there and get it done. Find or create a program that works for you, have some fun for goodness sake, and make it a habit. |
